Over the last few days, my Mumbai — my true home — has been through a traumatic spell of terror. While I’m thankful my family and friends are safe, and deeply relieved the incident is over, my mind is still reeling from this grave travesty of life.

Life — it’s what we animators are supposed to observe, embrace, and empathize with, in all its forms — good, bad and ugly. Are we, then, to empathize with the perpetrators of such ghoulish acts? And what about the hidden players, who arm these aimless pawns and push them around to execute their plans? Are we to admire their ingenuity just as we despise their deadly ambitions?

Or do we carry on, closing our mind’s eye to this ever-festering scar on the face of humanity — denying the existence of this real, though repulsive, side of life? To quote Roger Waters:

God wants crusades, God wants jihad,

God wants good, God wants bad

I’m leaving for Mumbai in a few weeks for my wedding. Yes, it’s still on. Whatever precious little I know about life, I know that it’s bigger than you and me and squash and stretch and bullets and bombs. And it goes on. It always does.
